Love Rules for the Self

How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.

A powerful quote by Rupi Kaur and, with St Valentine’s Day approaching, the day upon which one declares their love for another, it raises an important question around our own love, for our ‘self’.

Here’s my quirky take on how we can show ourselves love, and boost our mental / emotional wellbeing:

· Just say no!

Falling into the trap of pleasing others, spending time and energy which is not reciprocated and often to our detriment. What or who is draining your energy? Saying no helps to recreate our boundaries protecting our time, space and energy to do the things that make us happy.

· Living in the present

Constantly living in the past or worrying about the future can take a strain on our wellbeing. In Reiki daily practice there are principles to live life by, and start with the phrase ‘just for today’. A mindful reminder to have concern only for the present.

· Use the good stuff

Life is for celebrating. Don’t keep the good stuff for a rainy day. Use it now, and enjoy every single beautiful moment.

· Mirror, mirror

Every day when you wake, look in the mirror and tell yourself 3 things you love about you. It’s hard at first, but it’s amazing how many things you can come up with. Always look yourself in the eye as you do this; it’s powerful!

· Just say yes!

Start saying yes to the new, the different, the inspirational, the exciting, the creative, and the scary! Too often we get stuck in the dull predictable mundane. When you take the smallest step into the new, it leads onto a whole new pathway of discovery and love.
